Leon Wasser founded and leads the School of Energy of the Resilient World Institute. The School of Energy offers a wide variety of one day and multiday training programs to professionals engaged in energy issues including architects, professional engineers, operating engineers, energy consultants, HVAC designers and energy consultants.
Leon is a professional engineer and has been involved in the energy sector over the course of his career. For many years Leon was involved in managing a family owned electrical contracting company. While in engineering school he enrolled in energy related classes including thermodynamics, fluid dynamics and the emerging fields of solar energy and geothermal engineering.
During and following university Leon worked for Petrosol, Canada’s first solar energy company, for The ECE Group consulting engineers and M. Levis and Associates, consulting engineers.
He subsequently practiced design and project engineering for Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (AECL) where he was involved in developing the Integrated Project Management System, including performic seismic redesign work for Bruce nuclear power plant and then as a project engineer for Defence Construction Canada. He subsequently served York University for almost 20 years in a variety of management capacities including as Facility Planner, Development Coordinator, Glendon Campus Business Manager and Director of Commercial Facilities.
Academically, Leon co-founded the business school alumni association and served on the Schulich School of Business Faculty Council for many years. He taught first year business students and was awarded the Seymour Schulich Award for Teaching Excellence. Leon also taught a variety of technical training courses for a private training company on topics including “Strategic Energy Planning – The New Public Sector Asset Life Cycle Cost Paradigm” and “Total Productive Maintenance”. Leon also served on the project team to develop the Integrated Energy Program at Centennial College and is a member of the International Renewable Energy Academy.
Leon has also published many technology related articles for publications including Canadian Healthcare Facilities, Canadian Property Manager, Parking in Canada, Sudbury Mining Solutions Journal.
Leon also leads Wasser Resources Inc. which assists companies in the development of new technologies primarily in the areas of CleanTech and PropTech. He also assists in the adaptation of global technologies in these areas to the Canadian market, and helps Canadian companies to expand into global sales. In this role, Leon has been involved in technical training for numerous energy technologies including solar, nanotechnologies, hydroelectric technologies, transportation technologies biotechnologies and hydrogen technologies.
Leon has served on numerous related boards and organizations including as Vice-Chair of the Ontario Sustainable Energy Association, Professional Engineers Ontario Toronto-Humber Chapter, Durham Strategic Energy Alliance, York University Presidential Advisor on Parking (Chair & Co-author of York University Green Transportation Plan).
