E101 – Introductory eQuest 3.65 Energy Modelling for OBC Part 3 Buildings
Course Summary:
This course covers the essentials of building energy modeling and explains how to use modeling to guide design decisions. It provides modeling tips related to the building envelope, plug loads, lighting systems, and HVAC systems. Attendees will gain a clear, in-depth understanding of the theory and practice of building energy modeling, and will also have the opportunity for hands-on building simulation experience during the seminar.
Course Description:
Energy modelling is the software used to analyze and optimize the energy characteristics of buildings.
eQuest is an energy modelling system developed to addresses the energy modelling performance requirements of SB10, where SB stands for Sustainable Buildings, an annex to Part 3 of the Ontario Building Code, the section of OBC devoted to the construction of new large buildings including office, industrial, warehouse, institutional and industrial buildings.
eQuest energy models are developed by architects, HVAC designers and contractors, consulting engineers and energy consultants who have been engaged for the new development project. This course is designed for professionals from these disciplines.
An increasing number of provincial laws and city by-laws, as well as professional energy standards and rating systems are requiring the use of building energy simulation programs to verify energy and dollar savings for both high performance new facility design projects and existing building retrofits.

This class will be taught by Afzal Siddique, a veteran energy modeller from SRS Consulting Engineers Inc. which specializes in the energy performance of buildings.

Mr. Siddique is a Professional Engineer in Ontario, Canada. He holds a Bachelor of Science (Physics, Mathematics, and Statistics), Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) and Master of Engineering (Energy Modelling).
Mr. Siddique has over 25 years of multi-disciplinary experience in HVAC systems design and manufacturing, energy modelling, and building energy systems commissioning. He is a proven engineering manager and technical communicator with expertise in performance optimization, remediation, and field performance monitoring with a focus in strategic green building design.
Technical and mangement experiences highlights include: implementation of engineering theories & techniques; in-depth knowledge and understanding of simulation softwares such as DOE 2.1, EE4, Carrier HAP, eQUEST, EnergyPlus, Ecotect, DesignBuilder and RETScreen with an emphasis on HVAC building design; experience in engineering Codes and Standards – 2011 & 2015 NECB, ASHRAE 90.1-2010 & 2013, ASHRAE 62.1(2007, 2010, 2013), ASHRAE 189.1, and OBC 2012; performed detailed technical diagnostic test of the Solar PV Panel, using solar software such as PVsyst.v5.02, GetSolar, RETScreen, and Polysun; modelled ground source heat pump & ground heat exchanger using GSHP software such as EED, Geo Designer 3.1, GLD 3.0, GS2000, RETScreen, and eQUEST; and managed project from design to commissioning stage and attended site meetings with trades to resolve critical matters.
